Letting you go might have been hard in the moment,
But it quickly became one of the best things I’ve ever done.
I finally saw clearly through my cracked self lens
To finally see what I was truly worth
And what I deserve
The broken girl staring back at me had started filling the fractures you created with gold.
The devil on my shoulder quieted
His whispering about my insecurity muted now
Lacking the breath of your negative words
I became attuned to every detail about myself,
Adjusting everything to be perfect
And yet you somehow always managed to find something you didn’t like.
It was never about what I wanted or how I felt.
I remember there are people who accept me as I am.
People who truly listen and care
People who make me smile the way you did,
All without the anxiety that came with “us”.
