She watched him once with big brown eyes,
a quiet sigh after many story skies.
Her heart waited, yet afraid to show
the powerful fire he never grew to know.

He drifted on, humming a tune he always returned to,
while she shattered
trying to stay strong.
She realizes she was trapped beneath his sea,
knowing now she couldn’t breathe,

Still somewhere beneath the waves, she grew-
a ripple that was about to break through.

Her love was fierce–a storm inside.
She’s learning she should not hide,
because she can hold her own umbrella up…
Just. As. High.

Though it aches to turn away,
she knows that she’s worth more than “maybe someday.”
So, she steps away, leaving his shadow behind–
unbound, unbroken; her light re-defined.
