To Ms. Illusive Future,

I see you at the end of the day–

heavy lids, blank ceilings, focused breathing–

the fanfictions I write

between the seconds and minutes that pass

in the unknowing.

Oh, Ms. Illusive Future,

I hear you in the echoes of aspirations unreached

and their jaded legacy, weighing on me

their crystalline structure on the brink of fissuring,

I am waiting.

Why, Ms. Illusive Future,

Do I feel you in chills,

of sonder, moments humanity meets the heart.

in my aching back, so invested

in our love.

Yes, Ms. Illusive Future,

You are especially in my love,

that listens, and grows and tires.

I feel you tugging like an impatient toddler

I’m here, what is it?

My dear Ms. Illusive Future,

I see you.

I hear you.

I feel you.

And oh, how we yearn for each other…

Cheers,

to us, but mostly to uncertainty.
