You’re always still
until your not
I pretend that you want me
when the only thing you really want is to be alone
In a beautiful arrangement of stretching limbs that tangle above and below
Carrying your weight
When I am asleep and in the current of the night
That body of yours moves in a quiet way
You move like me
as if your afraid to startle yourself
People tell me you’re big but in fact your small
That you’re terrifying to look at
All I see though is something to come home to
Sitting in one’s hand
You’re just a child
That may be why you’re soft to me
Even with a venomous bite you let me hold you
They will not see what I see
Blinded by surface level things
Wanting to watch you burn like a witch at the stake
I will protect you
At times I wish you wanted me
That your steps were not as tentative
Moving faster than my eyes can follow
I can’t blame you though There is no harm in protecting one’s own body
As it is precious and it times it feels like the only thing you have
But it is not and you are able to leave your physical form behind *
*Molting
I remain stuck in my skin.
